Helping You Choose the Right Custom Cake

Blog

Choosing a custom cake for any event, be it a wedding, baby shower or birthday, may seem easy, but wait until you are presented with the many options. What you need to know is that there are some basic things that are easy to choose to help you narrow down the choices. These are things like icings or frostings, fillings and flavours. What you may find hard to decide is the shape or design.

Flavour

Though flavour may be easy to determine, you might want to think about the preference of your guests. Try to get a flavour that is convenient for the majority of the guests. Remember, you cannot finish the whole cake alone, and you do not want to be left with the cake at the end of the occasion.

Duration

Some cakes will require some time to prepare, especially if you have a layered/pillar cake or a shaped cake. Simple or classic cakes like standard round or square cakes will take a shorter time to prepare. You may find that if the occasion you need the cake for is not too many days away, your choice will be limited to a standard cake. If you wanted a pillar or shaped cake, you need to make the order early, because it can take up to a week or two depending on your order.

Cost

Shaped and pillar cakes will definitely cost more than standard round or square cakes. Review your budget and see what you can afford. This will help you make a quick decision. Remember that size will also contribute to the cost.

Occasion

The event will also determine the type of cake. There are usually some unwritten rules about the type of cake that matches a particular event. For example, if it is a wedding, you will notice that most people will choose layered or pillar cakes. For a birthday, it will depend on the interests and personality of the birthday boy or girl. Therefore, it can be any type of cake that you think the person will like. For baby showers, people get creative because they want to learn the sex of the baby, or they want a uniquely shaped cake (like a teddy bear, for example). For the sex of the child, the colour of the inside of the cake may be blue or pink.

Considering the above will help you make the right choice when it comes to custom cakes.

Fran's Food Blog

There is nothing better than spending some time in the kitchen preparing a healthy and tasty meal. For many years, I was afraid of cooking. I didn't think that I had the skills to make food so I used to rely on microwave meals. However, all of that changed when I met a wonderful man. He was a chief and he loved food so much that you couldn't spend more than a couple of minutes around him without falling in love with good food. He has taught me lots of cooking skills which have enabled me to embrace the world of food.
